Natural teak or synthetic teak:
Which is the best option for your boat?

This is the question we are asked most often. The answer depends on four key factors: the type of vessel, its usage, the marina and the owner’s preferences.

Natural teak is the benchmark standard in high-end yachting. Its appearance, feel and long-term performance are unmatched. It requires periodic maintenance with oil or varnish depending on the chosen finish, and with proper care offers a lifespan of 15 to 25 years.

Synthetic teak has evolved significantly over the past decade. Modern high-density polyurethane systems are virtually indistinguishable from natural teak at first glance, retain less heat, are lighter and require no annual maintenance. Their lifespan exceeds 20 years.

At KONTECA, we offer both solutions and provide impartial advice — installing the system that best suits your vessel and your actual requirements.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to install a teak deck on a boat?
Pricing varies depending on the vessel’s length, the deck area to be covered, the chosen system and the existing condition of the surface. As a reference, a full project on a 10–12 metre boat differs significantly from that of a 20-metre yacht with a flybridge. We always carry out a prior technical inspection in order to provide an accurate, transparent quotation with no surprises.
It depends on the surface area and the system chosen. A standard 10-metre deck can typically be installed within 3–5 working days. We always plan the work around the owner’s navigation schedule.
Yes. All our systems are designed to be installed over the most common substrates in marine construction: fibreglass (GRP), aluminium, steel and timber. Proper substrate preparation is a critical part of the installation process.
We regularly operate in Sotogrande, Alcaidesa, La Duquesa, Estepona, Marbella, Puerto Banús, Málaga, Benalmádena, Fuengirola and marinas in the Gibraltar area. For other ports across Andalusia, please contact us to check availability.

KONTECA METHOD

How we approach every project

At KONTECA, we do not deliver standard projects. Every vessel is different, every deck has its own geometry, and every owner has distinct priorities. That is why our process always begins with the reality of the boat, not from a catalogue.

01 — Initial contact and consultation

You can reach us by phone, email or contact form. We will respond within 24 hours to understand your project and arrange a no-obligation technical visit.

02 — Onboard technical inspection

A KONTECA technician visits the vessel at the marina or shipyard. We assess the current condition of the deck, the structure and the project requirements. We take photographs and technical notes.

03 — Technical proposal

Within 48–72 hours, we provide a proposal including the recommended system, full technical specifications, material samples upon request, execution timeline and a detailed quotation.

04 — Precision templating

Once the project is confirmed, we carry out full deck templating, section by section. This stage is critical to ensure the perfect fit of every component.

05 — Workshop fabrication

All components are manufactured in our workshop under strict quality control. Prior to installation, each element is inspected to ensure it meets the project specifications.

06 — Installation and handover

Installation is carried out at the marina or shipyard according to the agreed schedule. We provide full technical documentation, including material certificates, warranties and a maintenance protocol.
